Cemetery Restoration

Elmwood is roughly 160 years old. Over the course of many decades, the monuments and headstones on the cemetery grounds suffer from exposure to the elements, tree damage, and occasional human mishap. There are many ways to repair monuments; some repairs are quick fixes, and some involve many steps. Each stone has its own needs.

This gallery will show some of the repair and preservation work performed by volunteers and staff. Some stone has been cleaned, some has simply been up-righted, and all have been shown the respect they deserve. The cemetery has to thank Todd Fox, Jorja Frazier, Jody Schmidt, Cathi Johnson, and Mark Henderson for their dedication to performing long-range preservation and repair work.

If you would like to join the ranks and learn how to correctly clean, preserve and repair cemetery monuments and headstones, please email jody [at] elmwoodcemetery [dot] org to sign up to attend 2012's Elmwood University: Stone College.
